Dear Editor: On July 17, with the help of an army of friends, we held the 2010 Yard Sale to raise money for the FSH Research Fund. FSH is a form of muscular dystrophy, the most prevalent of the nine primary types of muscular dystrophy, affecting both adults and children.
To date, we have raised $15,500 from the proceeds of the sale and contributions from neighbors and friends. In addition, we continue to have the support of a patron who has written a matching check each year so that our total contribution from 2010 will be more than $30,000! Sellers barged the “gate” at exactly 9 a.m. The hottest sellers? Bikes, jewelry and furniture. The big ticket items included a gently used Bellini crib, a West Elm day bed and dressers. Toys, games and baby items were also hot sellers. We could not have run the sale without the tireless support of Richard Montero and his son, Christopher, our girl Joy and our dear friends Patricia Hennessey and Lilli Diller. Our other dear friends who showed up at dawn to organize and sell include Joyce Magid, Cheri Sherman, Apryl Montero, Laura Kampa, Jody Appelman, Grace Ryan, Kim Merchant, Clare Briody and Warren and Nicole Diller. We thank you all and pray that our contribution to the FSH Society will help the lives of people affected with FSH muscular dystrophy. Sincerely, Brian Kerr and Grace Corradino Saltaire
