What’s your favorite memory from summer 2010 on the beach?
Watching 400 runners finish the fourth annual Fire Island 5K in Ocean Bay Park, and raising $50,000 for brain tumor research in memory of my mom, Rose DiGangi. Going into the ocean and getting hit by a wave. I got back up and my top was off and there was a child staring at me! Watching dawn break over the beach at the Pines Party as hundreds of people danced around me. Catching blue claw crabs off the dock at night in Cherry Grove, and my brother (Uncle Kerry) teaching my five year old daughter Claire how to hold them by the back swimmer fin so that they can't pinch her. Then, of course, stopping for an ice cream cone at Sweet Licks on the way back to the house! Watching my seven-year-old grandson Kai (visiting from Hawai’i) selling painted seashells in front of Flynn's. He made $168 in two hours! Family, Friends, Fire Island... for four months every year. What could be better? (If summer was 12 months and we were here full time!) Bringing reading material up to the ocean on a perfect August day. No reading that day, just staring at the waves.
