Robert Scherffius and Victor Alfieri are among the couples who married in Cherry Grove over the weekend of Sept. 17-18.

Scherffius and Alfieri, who met in Manhattan's West Village in 1952, tied the knot on the beach shortly before sunset on Saturday, Sept. 17, as hundreds of onlookers watched, cried and enthusiastically applauded the Grove couple on their nuptials. Scherffius and Alfieri also shared a dance with three other newlywed couples at a reception at the Ice Palace.

News columnist Bruce-Michael Gelbert and Joseph Saporito married on the beach earlier in the day, while fellow columnist Linda Dickerman married her partner of 28 years at a separate ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 18.
