The Fire Island Guide Ad Rates and Specs

The Fire Island Guide
Simply Fabulous

Stay Tuned for the Next Edition!

HISTORIC: Fire Island is widely acknowledged as the first openly gay community in the US. It is often considered the “other Hamptons.” Since the 1800s, the island has been a unique destination, now made up of 18 diverse communities as well as New York’s only National Seashore.

COMMUNITY: The Guide features chapters on each community celebrating their diversity. Each chapter is updated to bring the latest businesses and community changes to light, as well as a chapter with a special focus on the predominately gay communities of the east end.

BELOVED: Our readers are diverse and loyal. Homeowners stash the guide near their phones for easy reference; tourists refer to it as they plan their trip; the curious simply read it cover to cover, savoring the history and community chapters.

CONTENT: From the very first one in the 1960s, the Guide to Fire Island has given valuable information on travel, lodging, National Parks, history and more.

UNIQUE: Although small in comparison to Manhattan, the demographics of our readership—20s to mid 40s, affluent, educated, trendsetters—makes the Guide an exceptional tourist and residential guide book.

QUALITY:A four-color, perfectly bound book, the Guide features photographs from professional photographers as well as from our own archives.

WHY:The book is free to everyone and on the stands for two years. The Guide is cherished for its quality and content, so your ad will be seen for years to come!

TRUSTWORTHY: Brought to you from the publisher of the local newspaper, the Guide relies on the News’ current and correct information.

The Fire Island Guide was and continues to be the only guidebook serving the island’s visitors and residents alike.

About The Fire Island News

Written by Nicole Pressly Wolf
The Fire Island News Distributed By Land & Sea

The Fire Island News is read by over 50,000 people every issue — from before Memorial Day through two weeks after Labor Day — making The News the longest running seasonal paper. SEE OUR 2010 PUBLISHING CALENDAR >>

By private boat, The Fire Island News distributes each issue to all 18 communities along Fire Island’s 32 miles of beach.

On mainland Long Island, The Fire Island News is distributed by our own delivery team, from Babylon to Bellport and all county, state and federal park locations, including nearby Jones Beach and the Fire Island Lighthouse.

The News is also the only paper available at National Seashore visitor centers & Manhattan locations. FIRE ISLAND NEWS 2010 AD RATES & SPECS >>

Historical Importance– Contemporary Popularity

Since 1957, The News has been the paper of record and the only paper covering news and events from all 18 communities. Founded by The New Yorker’s Drama Critic Wolcott Gibbs, the paper is proud of its irreverent style, championing civil and environmental rights. The paper’s archives contain valuable Fire Island historical photos and articles.

According to the Fire Island National Seashore, over 3.4 million people visit Fire Island annually. Fire Islanders have an average yearly disposable income of $80,000. During a typical summer weekend, as many as 30,000 people are in residence and an additional 30,000 day visitors tour the island.

In a recent island-wide survey, the Fire Island Chamber of Commerce discovered that The News is read five times more frequently than any other publication on Fire Island. Just ask where you buy your paper! FIRE ISLAND NEWS 2010 AD RATES & SPECS >>
