From Our Archives: Martha Raye, the Green Beret (last issue)Written by Jeffrey Salzberger
Many of the historical articles written over the last two years have dealt with Fire Island residents’ tendency toward activism from the left, especially in the 1960s, but this piece points in the opposite direction. Or it could shed light on the left / right conflict. Let me back up a bit before we begin. That left / right comment reminded me of my brain, and this adventure starts with my brain, or rather a knock it recently received at the office, ironically enough, from the historical files that I have sworn to protect.

From Our Archives: Fishing Tales 100 Years Ago Blues Trolling Delighted Those with Aquatic Tastes"Written by Jeff Salzberger
The following article was reprinted originally in the Fire Island News for early July, 1994. It contains one of my predecessor’s thoughts on collecting memorabilia for the paper, sentiments echoed in my own mind as I continue to search our extensive archives. I’ve included another photo that shows children from the ‘20s with their bounty from the sea, an image which could have come from last summer, if not 85 years ago. Welcome back Fire Islanders. Hope you enjoy!
