4:45 p.m. Officers extinguished a bag of popcorn that caught fire on a stovetop in an East Walk home in Fire Island Summer Club.
July 23
1:24 p.m. Fire Island Pines Fire Department firefighters saturated a "hot spot" under the deck of a Picketty Ruff Walk home in Fire Island Pines after a resident reported smelling smoke.
4:30 p.m. A Corneille Estates man reported a deer, possibly sick, sitting on the beach staring at the ocean. Officers found the deer "walking through the dunes and doing all the things deer normally do on Fire Island."
July 27
8:21 p.m. An 86-year-old woman was bit on the left arm by the family dog on West Walk in Water Island. Victim airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment.
July 28
7:50 p.m. A dead sea turtle washed ashore in Cherry Grove. Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation notified.
July 29
3:27 a.m. A security guard at the Fire Island Hotel in Ocean Bay Park reported having an argument with a man who is not a guest. Man was gone prior to police arrival.
10:30 a.m. Officers assisted a Fire Island National Seashore ranger extinguish a vehicle fire at Barrett Beach.
July 30
1:20 p.m. A man on a sailboat with his 13-year-old son in the Great South Bay off Seaview reported that a Fire Island Water Taxi came within 20 feet of his boat.
July 31
11:35 a.m. An anonymous 911 caller reported an injured deer on Bayview Walk in Seaview. Deer was gone upon police arrival.
10:15 p.m. A 36-year-old man who claimed to run the Pines Party was stopped for acting suspiciously by driving his golf cart with three passengers near the helicopter landing pad and LIPA substation in Fire Island Pines. Subject said he was just looking for a place to turn around even though he had passed many others places to turn around. He was let go without incident.
Aug. 1
6:10 p.m. A Saltaire woman reported that a family with whom she has had prior problems is renting a house near her East Bay Promenade home. Complainant told to call back if there is a problem.
Aug. 5
11:59 p.m. A highly intoxicated 21-year-old Brooklyn man who was getting sick in Cherry Grove was taken to Southside Hospital.
Aug. 7
10:40 a.m. A Fair Harbor woman reported that her 12-foot portable boat was missing from its mooring. Neighbors found the boat in a nearby cove and returned it.
Aug. 8
2 p.m. An Ocean Bay Park man reported that he possibly had roof tar in his 7-person hot tub after he rented his Bayview Walk home to a 28-year-old man.
Aug. 11
9 p.m. An Ocean Bay Park man reported that his 3-year-old son ingested about a half a bottle of children's liquid Benadryl. Child was taken to Southside Hospital for treatment.
Aug. 12
6:15 a.m. A Fire Island Pines man reported finding a 36-year-old New York City man sleeping on the couch in his living room. The man told police he went into the wrong house. Police verified his story and no charges were filed.
9:20 p.m. Officers responded after Ocean Beach firefighters extinguished a bonfire on the beach in Atlantique.
Aug. 13
8:20 p.m. A woman called 911 to report that she was having "female type" cramps and needed a bathroom on Ocean Walk in Fire Island Pines. Officers told her police can't let her cut the line.
11:25 p.m. Ocean Beach firefighters extinguished a bonfire on the beach in Robbins Rest.
Aug. 14
12:15 p.m. A sick or injured dolphin was found on the beach in Point 'O Woods. Riverhead Foundation responded to remove the dolphin.
Aug. 16
8:10 p.m. A Cherry Grove man reported seeing a possible flare sighting 13 miles off the beach. Police confirmed it was only an Air National Guard drill.
Aug. 17
7:44 p.m. A Davis Park man reported a suspicious man knocked on his door selling magazine subscriptions, then asked about the occupancy of his Whalebone Walk home. Man was gone prior to police arrival.
Aug. 20
6:53 p.m. A Fire Island Pines woman reported that her 14-year-old dog went unconscious after falling into a pool and died shortly later.
In the same time period, officers also responded to one report sparking wires, one truck stuck in sand, two gas leaks, five 911 call hang-ups, eight false alarms, 78 noise complaints, wrote eight noise violation summonses and aided 87 sick or injured people. Lost were one dog leash, two bags, three cell phones, six bicylces and several pieces of jewelry. Found were two bikes.
