Dear Fire Islander: It seems as though two years have gone by and not two seasons with a new boss in the White House and new sand on our beaches creating a spirit of hope and change. In that spirit, we want to update you on the News in 2009.
We have decided to become a monthly news source in response to the demand for more in-depth coverage, more lifestyle pieces and more entertainment schedules. But fear not! It means each paper will remain on the stands twice as long this summer than last season, creating double value for your advertising dollar. We thought that was important this summer. In addition, we will be open circulation on Fire Island (this means FREE). This allows us to finally be not only in local markets, but in many venues. So look for us in your favorite restaurant, cafe or surf shop. If you dont see us, please request us and let us know where to be next.
And remember to surf! Like we have been doing for three winters already, we are using our fantastic Web site to fill in any potential gaps, so please log on to get the news when it happens.
We are excited to welcome back Mike Lavers as managing editor. In his spare time, he is the national news editor for EDGE Publications. Mike will keep track of all incoming columns and reporters articles. We are also happy to welcome back Tim Bolger, an experienced Long Island reporter.
And finally the Guide to Fire Island is back on the stands again for its second season. Be sure to pick one up if you missed it last summerit's a beauty.
The Guide and the News are just two ways we try to record the island's unique stories, keep people in touch with their community news and of course have fun. And now with our Web site, these three outlets make us year-round.
So here's to Summer 2009! See you on the beach! Nicole Pressly Wolf
